Statement of intent

Statement of intent

  • How you intend to use Media Language to target your intended audience
  • How you intend to use Media Representations that are appropriate to your intended audience

The statement of intent is a document that you need to write detailing some aspects of your production, like how you intent to use media language to target your audience and the type of representations you will use to appeal to your target audience.

My documentary will be about a young 14 year old footballer playing in the u16s. The characters in it are Harvey Bateman as Harvey Bateman and me as the (interviewer/ narrator.) The documentary will start with me talking about the up and coming young footballers, for example Callum Hudson-Odoi, Jadon Sancho, Matthias De Ligt and Frenkie De Jong. When talking about these footballers i will add clips of these footballers over the top of my voice. I think this will intrigue people from the ages 10-13. The reason why I think my target audience will enjoy my documentary is because that age gap seem to enjoy football well I did when I was that age. My documentary will be called "Up and Coming" due the up and coming footballer Harvey Bateman. I think would appeal to audience who enjoy watching football and can inform people on different players on who can be in the football scene very shortly.

My documentary will consist of: different shots, an interview, and skills. It will enter with me explaining different young players and meeting up with Harvey after the next scene will be Harvey taking shots and doing skills. I could also put in a clip of Harvey playing in a real match. due to this being the start Harvey could introduce himself by explaining where he’s from, how old he is, who he plays for and what position he plays in. I could also add in different music and background noises to add that little touch. We could also possibly add in a clip of an interview. I could also have a clip of him in the gym on the treadmill and lifting weights.  As well as this I could have a clip of his diet like him eating an apple or having a protein shake.

Intertextuality

Intertextuality simply means creating one text in reference to another.
Intertextuality can also happen when the content of one media text makes reference to another.
Intertextuality is not always obvious. References can only be recognised if you know what  they are referring to.
There are also cultural, social and linguistic limitations.

Media could use intertextuality to make jokes to take the mick out of another show or film. For example Family Guy do it all the the time taking the mick out of star wars. It is good for media producers because it can create humour and bring in audiences.

CASTING

The purpose of my documentary is to inform people about an up and coming young footballer Harvey Bateman. It is his intentions to tell us of his goals and dreams. The intro to the documentary could be Harvey introducing himself then showing him doing skills and taking shots then transitioning to me talking about different football teams who have brought in young players and who have ended up becoming footballing stars.

Product Style Profile

Learning Objectives:

  • K: the importance of sketches and planning in the decision making process of creating a magazine.
  • U: how to use sketches to influence your stylistic decisions.
  • BAT: undertake a creative task in which you start the decision making process in terms of style of your magazine.

In this task i will plan out what scenes will go in at what points a long the documentary. For example i will intro the documentary with Harvey introducing himself like when he was born, where he is from who he plays for, what position he plays and what his schedule is. This doesn't all necessarily have to all be in the introduction.

My documentary will have different narrative points and different interval/scenes with me asking Harvey some questions. It will consist of a couple of scenes with Harvey taking shots and doing different skills.

Different shots:

  • Medium shots
  • low angle shots
  • Long shots

NEA BRIEFS

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • K: The requirements for each of the briefs set by OCR.
  • U: How to approach the chosen brief, including writing the statement of intent.
  • BAT: Choose a brief and start planning what to write in the statement of intent.
  • CO: Use media terminology (all areas of the theoretical framework) in your written and verbal communication.
I want to choose the documentary brief because I want to exceed in camera work and editing. Also i think it'd be fun for me to get some experience in what i want to do when i grow up. I know someone who does as a job and has the necessary equipment for it like: a camera, a drone and a laptop/ipad to edit on. i already know roughly how to edit (just the basics though.) All i need to know is how to fly a drone and the focus levels of a camera.

these 2 time stamps are showing an interview a scene from the actual player playing football.

The main character in my documentary would be the character that is the new upcoming footballer and to get shots of him playing football and having an interview with the football player.

from my findings on my survey most people would like to see a foot ball documentary. Also 66.67% of people that took my survey are 14 years of age and it was 50/50 on boys and girls. As well as this most people would like to see a medium shots in my interview with Harvey Bateman.

MY audience has a target age of 14 and a gender of both male and female. Also people that took my survey wouldnt mind a football documentary.
